Silicone Gaskets from the Experts
Silicone rubber is a widely used elastomer that is available in multiple formulations. In general, silicone rubber exhibits good resistance to, and the ability to maintain its other properties at, extreme temperatures (from -100° to 300°C/-148° to 572°F). The material holds its initial shape and retains its mechanical strength under heavy thermal stress and in sub-zero temperatures. Silicone is highly inert and non-reactive with most chemicals, making it an ideal choice for medical applications and implants.
The experts at Delmar will work with you to determine if silicone rubber is the best option for your gaskets, or if a different rubber gasket material would be better suited to your needs. Material selection is based on a number of factors, including process temperatures and pressures, chemical compatibility, and sealing requirements, among others.
We use a series of questions, which we call STAMP, to help us establish what material will work best for your application. Please keep the following questions in mind when specifying your standard or custom gaskets:
- S: Size of the gasket
- T: Temperature range in which the gasket will operate
- A: Application—is it a flange? a valve? a pump? etc.
- M: Media—what will the gasket prevent from leaking?
- P: Pressure range in which the gasket will operate
